As 2016 draws to a close, the engagement ring trends for the upcoming 2017 year start to really emerge. The end of a calendar year is the most popular time for ring purchases since so many people want to surprise their significant others with a proposal during the holidays which is spent with close family and friends. If you ask us what is at the top of the trending list it most definitely has to be our custom engagement ring settings that feature three rows of diamonds along the band. While we are well known for our dainty and delicate rings such as the iconic RS-63 design, the three-row band (also called multi-sided) has really become a favorite. These are perfect for someone who wants to have a little more substance and sparkler to their ring without detracting too much from their center diamond. This multi-sided shank creates amazing dimension to your engagement ring and allows you to see only diamonds from every single angle. There are many ways to actually style the three-row bands and we will break them all down for you here. Do note we actually have an entire filter on our website dedicated to the three-row engagement ring band styles because that is how much we love them.
It is important to note as well this is not just a flat band featuring three rows of diamonds all facing upwards. What makes this design unique is that the micro-pave is hand set along all 3 perimeters of the ring, flowing perfectly with the way band sits on your hand naturally if it were just a single row of diamonds. Because of this your completed ring is not too thick and too thin as well. If it were one straight plane of three rows of diamonds it will lose that glittery 3-dimensional look. Last thing to mention is that it would be safe to assume these style of rings are more expensive than the traditional single pave band engagement rings. These three row styles include triple the amount of diamonds, setting work and labor- while it is more costly you certainly get what you pay for. Here we will break down some of our more popular three row pave styles
Model RS-126: This is the original style that really made this type of design stand out. The three micropave row band features a single center stone with our signature pave wrap underneath and three rows of diamonds on the band. While we have been making this style ring way before the RS-126, we feel this particular model number really gave rise to the trend a few months back. The RS-126 has a slightly more square feel to it however we can also customize the design to have a more rounded shank if you prefer that look. Either way it is gorgeous design that combines the subtle detail of the pave wrap underneath with the dazzling three row band.
RS-227 is another popular one as well, featuring a slightly more rounded shank. The rounded band can sometimes be a bit more comfortable however we would not say the square band is considered to be uncomfortable either. This particular one is done in rose gold and in fact the diamonds on the band here will be more defined due to the contrast of the metal and colorless diamonds. Looks great in yellow gold as well providing you with that same sharp appearance
If you are not sure between the square vs rounded shank, we recommend taking a step back and evaluating the center diamond shape. Do you want the round shape of your center diamond (if you have a round brilliant, oval, cushion cut) to match a rounded shape on your band, or do you want to create a contrast between the two by having a more square shank with your rounded stone. This works as well if you have a princess, radiant, or emerald cut center- do you want the band to be more square as a complement or would you like create a contrasting effect by having the band more rounded? There is no right or wrong answer and any custom combination is possible!
Halo- If you love bling you are most definitely going to love adding a halo to your three row band. This look will not only increase the look of your center stone with the halo but it will also give you that glittery effect featuring the multi-sided band. RS-225 (shown here) is a perfect example featuring diamonds on every single angle of the ring. Also take note of the cathedral style band here which slopes up to the edge of the center-stone as opposed to tucking underneath it as shown in the previous styles.
Invisible Gallery One of the other trends for 2017 is definitely our invisible gallery design where the band reaches up toward the basket holding the center stone without any additional metal in between. If you love the invisible gallery then we can definitely customize your ring to include a three row band as well. Take a look at model RS-282: the multi rows of diamonds paired with the architectural feel of the invisible gallery are a sure winner.
Invisible Gallery & Halo. Love the halo design, and the invisible gallery, AND then three row band? Well we can give you all three seamlessly! Check out SOR-15243 (shown here) which features all of the above with a gorgeous oval center. This combination is modern and glittery with an artistic appeal. This custom ring was made for an oval moissanite center-stone which goes to show the versatility of these three pave designs
Bright Cut Pave While we did discuss the square and round bands, there is another style of pave that works well with the three row engagement ring designs. If you are after a more classic or vintage look, opt for a bright cut pave band. This style features a slim wall of metal between each of the diamond rows and in some cases milgraining/beading of the metal along the edges. Bright cut is the most traditional pave style so this design will look amazing if you are after a very classic and elegant look as opposed to modern and glittery. Not to be confused with a channel setting, this setting technique features tiny beads between each stone which help reflect the sparkle of the diamonds. This is a great example of a custom ring from Lauren B with a three row bright cut pave band
Center-Stone Shape & Type: Now that you have narrowed down the style of three row engagement ring you like, it is time to pick the center-stone. At Lauren B we offer you custom settings for any shape, type or quality center diamond of your liking. From diamonds, moissanites and precious or semi-precious gemstone, the choice is yours. We can help you select the perfect one based on your preference and price range and the setting will be custom made to the exact measurements of the center-stone ensuring a seamless look throughout.
From halo to non halo, rounded shank to squared off, bright cut to traditional pave, white gold to rose or yellow, cathedral to tucked band; the possibilities may seem endless so choosing your perfect combo may take some thought.
