Last week on our Live Instagram show we went over wedding band designs that work well as stand alone rings. These types of bands discussed in this post are usually best suited to be worn alone on the hand because if worn together with another ring on the same hand might clash or take away attention. These fun rings make amazing wedding gifts, anniversary gifts, and push presents because of their bold and sparkly look. In most circumstances the following bands are meant to be worn alone because they are thicker, wider, and feature larger than normal diamond sizes. We love the endless amount of customization options available with these designs. These types of rings can either be worn as a stand alone wedding band with no pairing engagement ring on the left hand or for extra added sparkle you can opt to wear your engagement ring on the left hand and a large diamond wedding band on the right hand. When it comes to diamonds it is never TOO much 😉

First to brush up on a bit of wedding band vocabulary let’s talk about the types of styles wedding bands come in. This essentially refers to the way in which the diamonds are set within the metal.
Pave band: Pave does not necessarily mean small stones, it just means that the diamonds are inset flat closely within the metal. This is a low profile design that lays close to the hand and minimizes the appearance of metal
Prong set: A wedding band that features taller prongs holding the diamonds in place. This type of design comes in a few variations but the main idea is that diamonds stand out and are more prominent on the ring because they are not closely inset within the metal of the ring. You can essentially see more of the diamond’s profile. As a sample see this prong set diamond wedding eternity band featuring an airline basket. Notice how the diamonds stand our more prominently on that design as opposed to let’s say this pave diamond comfort fit wedding band. These is no right or wrong option here it is really a matter of style and comfort.Â
Now there are a few variations in the types of Prong set wedding bands
U-shape: A U or V shaped prong holds each diamond into place. The entire profile of the diamond is visible from all angles. Notice on this half way U shape diamond round brilliant cut wedding band the diamond is visible completely from all directions for a lot of sparkle. Â This is a type of shared prong setting as well and can be done with smaller diamonds as well.
Basket setting: Prongs along with a metal bar hold the diamond into place. Less of the diamond shows on the side but this look is a bit more structured.
Bezel setting: Each diamond on the band is encapsuled by a rim of metal depending on the shape you are going for. This is more of a vintage look
Now that we have an overview of design we will jump right into the particular ring models
PAVE WEDDING BAND DESIGNS
Wider pave wedding band: SOR-14952Â This design has 3.4 carats of diamonds total. It features a flat design sitting flush to the hand. The pave looks great with larger diamonds and has a scooped out sides meaning that where each diamond sits there is a small curvature in the metal.
This is shown in comparison to a wider pave band that has fishtail etching on the sides meaning that along each diamond there is hand etching to create a look that the diamond is extending further towards the edge of the ring.
Note these are available in any color metal be it rose, yellow, or white. The rose gold design gives a softer look on the hand and appears more delicate whereas white will stand out more.
PRONG SET WEDDING BAND DESIGNS: BASKET
Shared prong wedding band: SOR-14883Â This model features 2.4 carats of diamonds. Notice the diamonds are each held into place with prongs and then a closed basket on the bottom for additional support. This design sits up a little higher on the finger. Shared prong means there is a prong in between each diamond being shared with the diamond next to it. This minimizes the look of extra metal prongs holding each diamond because they are shared with their neighbor and it is perfectly secure.
Shared prong wedding band: SOR-13245 Â Now on to a more bold look with 3.4 carats of diamonds. On this design the shared prongs hold the diamonds as well but it features an open or airline basket. This means there is more airspace for the diamond on the side and not as much of the diamond is being covered with metal for an airier look. This particular model also features larger diamonds for a more bold appearance
These designs also look amazing in different colored metals so don’t be afraid to switch it up! Take a look at this SOR-14565 yellow gold shared prong airline basket round cut diamond eternity band.  A truly classic yet unique spin on an eternity band.
PRONG SET WEDDING BAND DESIGNS: U-SHAPE
U-Shape prong set wedding band: SOR-12370 This design features approximately 3.8 carats of diamonds for a very bright and sparkly appearance. This type of ring is a real show stopper. The U shape design allows each of these large diamonds to be viewed on all sides.
U-Shape Rose gold prong set wedding band: SOR-14673 This model features smaller diamonds set in rose gold for a daintier and trendier appearance.
Alternating Bezel design wedding band: DRR-14831 This model features an alternating look with different size round cut diamonds. The bezel holds each diamond in place for a vintage/antique feel. On this particular design the rose gold pairs nicely. While hard to pick up in a video, do note in the photos the milgrain edges along the rim of the bezel. This is hand etching done along the metal for a delicate, retro look.
