When it comes to choose the perfect diamond the first thing that comes to a client’s mind is the size, or carat weight which is the unit of measurement. While many become overly concerned with the numbers themselves, we try to stress that you should always seek value. In terms of diamond weight, we all know about those juicy round numbers like 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and so on, as being target goals for your purchase. However, there are options in between these carat weights that we like to refer to as “off sizes” (also known as special sizes). In this post we are going to talk about 1.70 carat range diamonds with high color/clarity grades across several shapes, and give you some insight into why these are such hot items. While you may hear people tell you to go after a 1.99 carat diamond to get better value, that is false because it will only be a tad less expensive than a 2 carat and not of any significant savings to your pocket. Follow along with this detailed HD video showing each diamond from our current inventory alone and a side by side comparison
1.70 CT ROUND G-VS2: This combination of color and clarity is ideal in many people’s eyes however for those who want a 2 carat size they are going to be looking at a price tag of close to, or over, $20,000. Fear not, as you can opt for something along the lines of this beautiful 1.70 carat diamond which has diameter measurements of nearly 7.8mm, making it hard for most to decipher that it is well below 2 carats. There are 2 carat diamonds out there with excellent cut grades that only measure 7.9mm so the difference of one-tench of a millimeter is almost impossible to see with the naked eye. At around a 25% discount from a 2 carat price, this type of diamond is a great way to achieve top quality and stay within a reasonable budget.
1.70 CT OVAL E-VS2: Speaking of quality, this type of diamond is hard to find with its top color and VS clarity grades. Oval diamonds, in particular, are in high demand so the asking price for this type of quality and a 2 carat size is going to throw a shock into many. For those clients who are keen on quality but do not want to overspend, a diamond like this will be right up their alley. Oval diamonds already have larger face up appearances than most other shapes, so sacrificing a bit on the size here to maintain a higher quality might be a great trade-off to consider. 1.70 CT PEAR D-VS2: The only thing better than “E” color is “D”, and this diamond tops the charts for its color grade. What also make this special is the dimensions of 10.5mm length which will give you more finger coverage at this carat weight than most any other diamond cut. For the same price point as this diamond, you may be able to purchase a 2 carat diamond with a G or H color grade and as low as SI1 clarity, but that is quite a trade-off of size for quality. For pear shape diamonds the difference between D-E color and H is quite noticeable. Remember, unless two diamonds are side by side it would be very difficult for a novice to look at it alone and tell you an accurate weight
1.74 CT CUSHION D-VS2: Another gorgeous stone with a rare combination of color and clarity. The beauty of this diamond also lies within its magnificent brilliant style faceting pattern which not only gives it a more crisp sparkle, but also adds more surface area to the stone for a larger face up look. Believe it or not, this cushion cut measures 7.6mm x 6.9mm which is what you normally would see for a 2 carat diamond no matter how it is cut. You may even see some that measure smaller than this, and those would normally be what we like to refer to as crushed iced cushion cut diamonds. However, just because they weigh 2 carats and have a D-VS2 rating, you will certainly pay a hefty premium but will not even achieve the look of this diamond in terms of beauty. This stone is truly exceptional and provides amazing value for someone after a top quality stone in all facets. To see some beautiful cushion cut diamond videos click here
1.70 CT RADIANT G-VS2: Radiant cuts come in both square and rectangular shapes with the latter being more popular at the moment. As with cushion cut diamonds, an elongated radiant will appear larger to the eye and this beautiful 1.70 carat has a length of close to 7.7mm which is sometimes reserved for diamonds that weight 2 carats. Again, this is the type of diamond that helps you achieve a well balanced diamond in terms of color and clarity while staying at a reasonable price point.
