March 20th may be National Proposal Day, but December is the most popular time of the month to be proposed to and I think we all know why. Though people have been proposing historically for quite some time, the history of the diamond engagement ring only starts in the late 1940s. According to JR Thorpe of Bustle.com, the first diamond ring wasn’t even a classic solitaire, but instead was, ” a gift from Archduke Maximilian of Austria to the noblewoman he was courting, 20-year-old Mary of Burgundy. Harry Winston went on to state that the ring appeared to be , “a delicate band adorned with diamonds in the shape of her first initial”. This may seem like a modern twist on a classic idea, but in fact this is where it all began.
The first question on everyone’s mind when they hear that someone’s been proposed to is usually in regards to the ring- but not far behind is the curiosity about exactly how the proposal went down. We are so lucky to work with a large variety of clients who all propose in ways unique to them, and in celebration of just how creative some got- we’ve put together a blog of our top 10 all time favorites!
1. Knight in Shining Armor – Christopher B
She certainly didn’t see this coming! Our client was surprised by her partner when he posed in a full chain metal Medieval era knight outfit, standing on a landing posing as a prop. We all want our knight in shining armor..and she actually got one! When he came to life and surprised her with a custom designed oval cut Lauren B ring, how could she say no? Her gorgeous oval cut double edge diamond halo ring is similar to our RS-246 design with a few very special touches added such a sapphire underneath the halo for a unique touch!
2. Scuba Diving – Clint B
These two were out for an adventure as is when they were scuba diving together, enjoying their holiday abroad. Little did she know he would be making their underwater adventure even more memorable when he pulled out his Lauren B ring and asked for her hand-( which was in a wetsuit at the time). Truly a daring and memorable proposal!
3. Coming Up Roses @ayy_you 1
Sometimes the most romantic proposal doesn’t involve anything more than rose petals, and our clients showed us how that’s done perfectly with their proposal. Walking into a room with a question mark laid out with rich red rose petals and a Lauren B custom designed ring sends our hearts fluttering. Well done!
When a rooftop just won’t cut it and the only view you will settle for is an entire landscape at sunset, then you must be our clients! A hot air balloon proposal is one of the most private ways to share that special moment. We were lucky enough to receive a photo of the view these two had, and we can’t stop looking at it!
5. Their Own Island – Ben S
This photo looks like it came straight out of a movie but really it was orchestrated by one of our clever clients after he custom designed his Lauren B ring! These two had this moment- and this island- all to themselves. Everything about this proposal is absolutely perfect, we’re definitely taking notes!
6. Bridal Veil Falls – thefreshjawn
I wonder if she saw this coming? Our clients went on a hike to Bridal Veil Falls *hint hint* when he popped the question next to a beautiful waterfall! Judging by her look, she was certainly surprised- and the view certainly doesn’t hurt either!
Why does the beach always seem like the best place to go for a romantic moment? This couple made waves with their proposal at sundown with a surfboard that said it all plus a custom designed Lauren B engagement ring! Incorporating a prop into the proposal that you can keep is a great idea and will also make a pretty cute touch at the wedding.
