Double your Halo, Double the Funby Lauren B Team November 23, 2015While not as popular as the classic single halo styles more commonly seen on our custom rings, the double halo can certainly jazz up the look and increase the sparkle factor of any center diamond. These designs feature two rows of diamonds around the main the center-stone. In most cases, these diamonds are set in a tiered formation where the row closest to the main stone is set slightly higher than the row on the outer edge. By doing so you create a clear distinction between each one and allow each row to sparkle freely without looking like one cluttered disc of diamonds. In many instances, both rows will feature colorless diamonds but you can always add a touch of color with pink or yellow diamonds to add some more flavor to your look. While results may vary from place to place, at LaurenB our double halos add about 6mm of surface area to any center diamond and can make a diamond appear almost four times as large! For instance if you have a square cushion cut diamond around 1 carat with normal dimensions of 5.5mm, the ring will have the surface area of approximately 11.5mm which is usually reserved for a diamond of 4 carats or larger. While not for everyone, the double halo styles can certainly add a significant amount of sparkle and presence to any center diamond. Many people conclude that a double halo ring is for someone who wants to trick people into thinking they have a larger diamond. Our take on this is the opposite- the halos act as an accent for the center diamond and it is a matter of style and personal preference not about trying to "look bigger".Double halos can be created for any shape center diamond but the most popular and aesthetically pleasing are cushion, oval and round cut diamonds. These particular diamond cuts have soft edges which lends itself well to being encased in multiple rows of diamonds. As for the rest of the ring, many double halo engagement ring designs will lead into split band designs. The reason for this is the extra surface created by the double halo gives ample room for the band to split gracefully such as this popular cushion cut design shown from our website.Another increasingly popular double halo engagement ring style is to have it resting atop a very delicate pave band. This style creates a floating look where you have a large center piece (center diamond and double halo) seemingly suspended in thin air. By doing so, your eye is drawn directly to the centerpiece without any other distractions and can make the center piece appear even larger if that is possible. Check out this double halo oval style with split band shown the left.Whether or not you think the double halo is too much, here is no denying its beauty and impressive appearance. At Lauren B, our handmade double halo rings feature two delicate rows and a completely seamless fit around the center diamond.
